Podding

Beyond basic reading and writing, wiki is made for collaborating, in a practice sometimes known as 'podding' (workin g in 'pods'). Here we develop and share thoughts on how we might do this 'podding' thing, as a group of collaborators making wiki.cafe

What wiki is great for, is developing and sharing understandings, agreements and capabilities, in a community of mutually aware collaborators. It's the basic reason for wiki.cafe. This is done by 'podding' - working in pods. This practice has a history in the wiki community.

See: Awareness engine - Ways in which you can be aware of what others are doing in your neighborhood, and re-using your pages and paragraphs.

Podding is one mode of learning, and facilitaing and tooling-up learning is a basic motivation in the fedwiki community. For more general aspects, see Learning & wiki

👉 Some wisdom from past podding practice - links and rosters - being assembled here All about pods

We collect here information about a social structure for coordinating activity across multiple wiki sites.

Pods are a kind of venue where we produce capability or 'labour power' - the practical capacity in a community of practice, to do some particular kind of skilful thing, in some aware relationship with each other - near and far, alive or dead, past or future. The intention of podding is to produce **commons of capability**. Pods are about skilfully cultivating 'we'.

Eventually, this thread forms a key part of the how-to wiki on Writing in wiki.

For communicating to others in the pod we post news here Podding news. We all have a page with that name.

B A S I C S

👉 We create a page for blogging the 'news' from our own current thinking, for attention of others in the pod. For example, in our 'podding' site, the page is called Podding news.

👉 We drag a copy of the pod roster to the welcome page of the wiki. This enables us to easily get all the related wikis by all pod members into our neighborhood. About rosters - to be added xxx

> You might also want to drag a copy of mike's 'resources' roster. This will give you access to a collection of useful pages and tools, and tips on how-to-wiki, collected from more experienced writers.

mike's resources - mhresources.wiki.cafe

👉 We make frequent reference to Recent changes. This will show us what others in our neighborhood - eg our pod - have been at work on. We may then like to fork it into our own site. About recent changes - to be added xxx

> Would be good to create a short bio page, and link to it from your Welcome Visitors, under 'About us'. It's courtesy, to show visitors who's behind the curating of your site. About bio pages - to be added xxx

Subdomains - In working out our own wiki naming, we need to develop a domain-naming protocol for wiki.cafe. Although, to begin with, subdomains are not implemented.
